Budvar
Budweiser Budvar UK is the UK subsidiary of world-renowned Czech lager brewery, Budweiser Budvar. Founded in 1895 in České Budějovice (or Budweis to use its former German name) in Southern Bohemia in the Czech Republic, Budvar is one of Europe’s last state-owned breweries.
Being owned by the Czech people rather than a corporation, Budvar believe in only using local ingredients to brew their beer and are fiercely proud of their hometown, having fought and won numerous legal cases with the American brand Budweiser for the use of the trademark “Budweiser”.
Budweiser Budvar believe a Budweiser beer can only be brewed in Budweis/ České Budějovice and has an EU Protected Geographical Indicator for it beer, similar to Parma ham or Champagne.
The values of independence, thinking local and supporting your home town extend to the UK business and in 2015 Budweiser Budvar UK chose Bristol as their home for their UK operations.
Although only a team of 16 in the UK, Budweiser Budvar UK are equally committed to supporting their adopted hometown as their Czech parent is the town of České Budějovice itself and are particularly interested in how they can support Bristol’s independent night-time industry and young people within the hospitality industry.
