Hargreaves Lansdown leads the way in breaking endometriosis taboos
Local financial services giant Hargreaves Lansdown (HL), has taken a monumental step in breaking taboos surrounding endometriosis by becoming an Endometriosis Friendly Employer.
Endometriosis is a debilitating disease affecting one in ten women and individuals assigned female at birth. It costs the UK economy a staggering £8.2 billion annually in lost work, treatment, and healthcare costs. HL, a company deeply ingrained in the Bristol community, is committing to creating a more supportive and understanding workplace for those with endometriosis.
Lauren Cole, an Operations Specialist at HL, shared her journey, highlighting the arduous 9-year path to diagnosis. She expressed her pride in being part of an organization leading the way for others in the industry.
Urbi Suhan, an Operations Associate, shared her fears about how her condition might impact her career upon joining HL in 2022. Fortunately, she found a supportive network and became an Endometriosis UK Champion, thanks to HL’s unwavering support.
Clare Stinton, a workplace wellbeing specialist at HL, emphasized the importance of employee-led initiatives like the Endometriosis Friendly Employer accreditation in raising awareness and fostering understanding.
Emma Cox, CEO of Endometriosis UK, praised HL for its commitment to tackling taboos around menstrual health and endometriosis. By showing employees they are valued and providing support and reasonable adjustments, HL is set to increase engagement across its workforce.
HL’s initiative is part of their broader Inclusion and Diversity strategy, which includes several initiatives like free menstrual products, gender-neutral toilets, and policies and training related to menstruation and menopause.
Endometriosis is a painful condition that can disrupt the lives and careers of those affected. Symptoms range from painful menstrual periods to infertility and chronic pain. By taking this groundbreaking step, HL is not only supporting its employees but also setting a remarkable example for businesses across Bristol and beyond.
