Join the Forest of Avon Pledge and help bring trees and all their benefits closer to everyone
Better Bristol is pleased to announce Forest of Avon Trust as our new charity partner for the next quarter.
As our chosen charity, the Forest of Avon Trust will receive support through our public and business memberships in the form of a free marketing package, exposure on the Bristol24/7 platforms and collaborating with our business community.
Particularly given the pandemic and to enable every organisation to find their own way to support trees and woodlands, a Forest of Avon Pledge is the new opportunity from the Forest of Avon Trust, and their Pledge Community is sprouting up fast.
The Forest of Avon’s trees and woodlands across Bristol, Bath and the wider region, have been alive and growing for over 30 years. The Forest of Avon Trust is the charity that grows the Forest and connects more people to it. Better Bristol has chosen the Forest of Avon Trust as its charity of the quarter.
The charity draws in national funding and creates thriving partnerships such as the impactful ‘Trees for Learning’ involving 7,000 schoolchildren across Bristol and Bristol’s Greenstreets which just saw over 500 street trees planted with Bristol City Council and Bristol Tree Forum.

They are now commissioning a Defra funded tree planting programme, ‘Trees for Climate’, funding and supporting 15.5 hectares of tree planting in the last 6 months and aiming for a massive 75 hectares next planting season.
The Pledge offers organisations a chance to explore many supportive and wider actions they can take so that action is being taken in every corner of Bristol.
Alex Stone, the deputy executive director says; “A Pledge is simply an expression of being dedicated to a cause, having an intention.”
“Most of us are dedicated to brushing our teeth, so we won’t wake up with toothache the next morning and won’t lose our teeth in years to come! Think of all the things we do every day that are not really fun, but we do them because they will bring us benefits sooner or later.
“Could we all dedicate a little into our local trees, orchards and woodlands routinely? So that we breathe cleaner air, reduce flooding, tackle climate breakdown, enjoy more of our local green spaces together, provide a home for more wild species that give us joy and pollinate a third of our food?”

Organisations who Pledge can be businesses, schools, charities, local groups. The Trust are just starting to share Pledge stories, news and ideas.
Alex added, “Raising awareness is a key part of the Pledge, seeing others take action and asking their organisation to do the same.”
“Just a ten-minute team walk in the trees at lunchtime or finding a small piece of land near your business and helping plant trees on it – every tree makes the Forest!”
