Latest phase of Wapping Wharf springing to life
The first residents have now moved into the latest phase of development at Wapping Wharf, joining this already established and much-loved community on Bristol’s harbourside.
New residents have plenty to look forward to at Wapping Wharf, a city centre quarter well known for being home to a unique mix of independent restaurants, cafes and shops, with the possibility of the easing of lockdown now on the horizon. From al fresco dining to waterside strolls, not to mention the plethora of quirky, independent shops on your doorstep, this is an area bursting with options where it comes to spending your leisure time.
Among the first residents to have now moved into their new apartments are Marc Maryon, 32, and couple Jo Ley, 24, and Cary Leighton, 29 – and they’re certainly not alone. Around 75% of the 163 new one, two and three-bed apartments being created at Wapping Wharf Living, the name given to the private sale homes within the neighbourhood, have now been reserved off-plan (subject to contract).
Jo used to walk past Wapping Wharf as a student and always knew it was somewhere she wanted to live. She says: “Moving into our new home in Hope Quay was everything we had hoped for, very generous living space and more natural light than we had expected. We’re delighted to be in our new home.” She adds: “The area has a unique community feel which makes it so special. It really feels European, with its pavement cafes and open spaces.”
Cary agrees: “This is the most desirable part of Bristol to live in. We wanted to be close to the water and the independent shops in CARGO but also have city centre shops, bars and restaurants on our doorstep. It really is the perfect spot.”

Indeed, Wapping Wharf was highlighted in the Sunday Times’ Best Places to Live supplement 2020, which named Bristol harbourside as one of the best places to live in the UK, with Wapping Wharf entitled ‘best address’.
Marking a return to his hometown of Bristol after eight years living in London, Marc said: “When I came to walk around Wapping Wharf, I got such a positive feeling, and I knew that if I was to move back to Bristol, this is where I wanted to be. I had a checklist of everything I would ideally want and as soon as I saw the apartment ticked all the boxes, put an offer in the very next day.”
“I loved the spec of the apartment; it has everything I would want in terms of living space and layout and the interior is exactly what I would have chosen”, says Marc. “An important thing for me is the convenience of having everything I want right on my doorstep. Every morning I can get a coffee from one of the cafes downstairs, I’ve already found my new barber a minute away and I can always get really nice food either from the restaurants, or with the produce from the local shops.”

Jo Ley added: “Wapping Wharf has been so carefully thought out as a development. It really feels like we are part of the future of living, where communities are created to last. This is a very special place that houses independent businesses and beautiful living spaces and has already created an amazing community.”
To welcome residents to the community, a goodie bag of gifts sourced from the independent businesses at Wapping Wharf greets each household when they move into Wapping Wharf Living phase two.
Set across two buildings called Abel Yard and Hope Quay, the exterior of Wapping Wharf Living has an industrial wharf-like character, in keeping with the historic dockside location and the phase one design. Many have balconies or terraces overlooking the street scenes or internal garden courtyards, while the restored early 19th century, Grade II listed Gaol Gate is set to become an impressive new public entrance to Wapping Wharf.
Wapping Wharf Living is being developed by family-owned developer Umberslade and national urban regenerator, Muse Developments, in a joint venture.
Prices for a one-bedroom apartment start from £257,500; a two-bedroom apartment from £362,500; and a three-bedroom apartment from £525,000. Many of the apartments are ready to move into.
