Lost and Grounded joins the better business network

By Bristol24/7  Friday Apr 21, 2023

Lost and Grounded Brewers Ltd. are a Bristol-based brewery that was founded in July 2016 by Co-Founders Alex and Annie. The journey began 25 years ago when they first started brewing at home, and then travelled the world with Alex working for some of the best craft brewers across the globe such as Little Creatures Brewing and Camden Town Brewery. The name Lost and Grounded Brewers was coined by the co-founders when it was finally time to stop, make Bristol their home and grow a business, giving them and their team careers and focus.

Lost and Grounded Brewers is known for their delicious flagship lager, Keller Pils, and their state-of-the-art brewhouse, complete with a traditional lactic acid propagation plant (traditional German method of adjusting acidity), producing beers with balance, nuance and depth of character. In addition to their Keller Pils, their core range of beers includes a wide breadth of styles including Belgian specialty Ales.

Since opening in 2016, Lost and Grounded Brewers have focused on environmental responsibility, and their latest expansion is a major step towards their ongoing commitment to improve sustainability at the brewery as well as reduce their environmental footprint. The addition of an Energy Recovery System to their brewhouse allows for steam generated during boil by the kettle to be recovered via a Vapour Condenser which is then used to heat the next brew, reducing the company’s gas consumption by 10%. This project was made possible by a Green Business Grant awarded by the West of England Combined Authority to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to help them make improvements to their facilities which will improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Lost and Grounded Brewers were among the local businesses awarded over 70 grants to date.

This news follows other sustainable initiatives implemented by Lost and Grounded Brewers. They have monitored their water, electricity and gas usage since opening in 2016 and have seen a reduction of about 40% over the last 24 months. The brewery commissioned the installation of a 30 tonne malt silo in June 2022 to reduce their plastic grain bag waste and save 15,000 polypropylene sacks from going into landfill each year.

Lost and Grounded Brewers are committed to advocating for equality, further education, diversity, and have been a Living Wage Employer since inception. With almost 40 team members onboard, Lost and Grounded Brewers is stocked amongst some of the most exciting venues in the country and beyond, and their taproom is open each Friday and Saturday at 91 Whitby Road, BS4 4AR.
