Partners in Bristol takes hands on approach to bridge construction skill gap
Partners in Bristol, a subsidiary of City of Bristol College, is offering solution focused courses directly on real-world construction sites. As the sole provider delivering certain courses on live construction sites, Partners in Bristol is preparing students for the competitive construction industry.
The One Lockleaze Skills Academy, in the North of the city, is the hub for these short courses, covering plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and bricklaying. This hands-on approach not only ensures theoretical knowledge but also equips students with practical skills.
Facing a potential shortage of 225,000 construction workers by 2027, the UK needs skilled professionals. Partners in Bristol is aiming to address this demand with high quality, industry aligned curricula.
BBC Radio journalist Steve Yabsley delved into the Health & Safety Construction program at the One Lockleaze Skills Academy, uncovering the realities of starting a construction career. Among the success stories is Ragan Rylatt-Williams, who, after a two week course, transitioned into a full time construction career.
Reflecting on his journey, Ragan shared, “Within less than a year, I’ve achieved so much. It’s given me opportunity, and now my boss has given me a van, opening up more work possibilities.” His experience illustrates the transformative impact of Partners in Bristol’s courses, empowering individuals not only to secure employment but also to aspire to entrepreneurial ventures.
