Renishaw joins the Better Business network

By Bristol24/7  Wednesday Mar 16, 2022

One of the world’s leading engineering and scientific technology companies has joined the Better Business network.

Renishaw has expertise in precision measurement and healthcare supplies products and services used in applications as diverse as jet engine and wind turbine manufacture, through to dentistry and brain surgery.

It is also a world leader in metal 3D printing, designing and making industrial machines that ‘print’ parts from metal powder, including the handlebars for British Cycling’s track bikes at the Tokyo Olympics.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

The company currently has 79 offices in 37 countries, with more than 5,000 employees, of which over 3,000 people are employed within the UK, where the majority of its research, development and manufacturing is carried out. Renishaw employs around 2,500 people locally.

Renishaw’s proactive STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education outreach programme is designed to encourage the next generation of engineering talent by engaging students in a range of activities across schools and colleges in Gloucestershire, Bristol and South Wales, from year five onwards.

Company bosses recognise the huge value that early-career individuals can bring to the company and are constantly striving to recruit and develop talented individuals. This year, Renishaw is recruiting a record 96 graduates and 80 apprentices across its Gloucestershire and South Wales sites. It is also offering more than 100 placement opportunities, a mix of industrial and summer placements.

In November 2021, the company committed to a science-based net zero 2050 target.

“Solving environmental challenges requires ideas from a range of people, so we will work closely with our employees and our suppliers and customers to achieve our mutual targets. Each business is at a different stage of its sustainability journey, and we can all learn from and support one another,” said Renishaw’s head of communications Chris Pockett.

“Joining the Bristol24/7 Better Business network is a fantastic opportunity to share ideas and be a part of the success of the local community, both as an employer and as a supporter of community projects.”
