What’s happening with Better Bristol – August 2021
In the run-up to the major climate conference, COP-26, Better Bristol has teamed up with the Global Goals Centre to celebrate inspiring local heroes that are doing their bit to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
A series of 17 short videos, one for each of the goals, are being released every week, highlighting a Bristol hero – from a range of wards and spectrums of society – who is doing something that helps reach that goal.
One of the heroes celebrated for their amazing work is Tara Miran, who is focusing on addressing gender equality in the city.
As part of her work to champion local women, Tara talks to women from the community who are isolated to find out about their aspirations and barriers and was a real champion for them and their issues.
Watch Tara in the video below and look out for the heroes who will be posted across Bristol24/7 and the Global Goals Centre websites and social media every Monday.
Bristol24/7 will also be exploring Bristol’s journey to becoming a net-zero city through the next Bristol24/7 presents 2021 series.
In the free virtual event on September 16, you’ll hear from expert panellists to explore how Bristol is making its way towards achieving net-zero status, the challenges at hand and what you can do.

“They’ve all come on a journey, and I can definitely see improvement with all of them. They’re all much more proactive and confident – in terms of cooking and social skills,” said Cookery tutor Caroline Parsons.
The next How To Be A Chef course is due to start in the autumn of 2021: www.squarefoodfoundation.co.uk/how-to-be-a-chef.
