The view from Clifton’s newest office space
With Cabot Tower to one side and panoramic views over south Bristol to the other, the new Origin Workspace has an enviable position.
This high up vantage point on Berkeley Square will make a scenic spot for an alfresco lunchtime yoga session – which is exactly what will be taking place there once the £9m refurbishment of the building is complete.
With its utilitarian exterior, the property doesn’t yet look much from the outside, but the plan is to see it transformed inside and out, with an emphasis on the wellbeing of workers and supporting the local economy.
“Everyone on the project team is from local businesses, we made a conscious decision to support local economy,” explains Rob Hingston, head of Origin.
Heading straight to what will soon be the roof terrace, he shows off the stunning views over the city and newly created atrium that will let in plenty of natural light.

“The building does lend itself to natural ventilation and natural light, so we’ve just used strategic air conditioning where needed,” he adds.
Origin founder Heather Frankham charted a career from PE teacher to building up the apprenticeship training provider, Lifetime Training. Her company puts a strong emphasis on supporting startups.
Origin runs a ‘startup package’ for entrepreneurs that provides £18,000-worth of dedicated mentoring, office space, training and networking opportunities.

Once work is completed in Easter, the building will be home to a number of businesses – from professional services to startups. There is coworking and hot desking spaces for small companies and freelancers.
Coffee in the new kitchens will be provided by Clifton Coffee Roasters and members will have access to an Origin Workspace Connect Card scheme, which provides discounts at surrounding businesses.
