£2.3m immigration upgrade at Bristol Airport
A £2.3 million upgrade has been unveiled for Bristol Airport’s immigration hall to tackle queues in the arrival hall.
Set to open in spring 2017, the project will boost the number of passport control points from 10 to 17, and enlarge and improve the hall for a more streamlined, welcoming experience. Ten of the new passport points will be new generation ePassport gates, which management insist are faster than previous incarnations.
It follows a major overhaul of the security area of the departures hall as part of the £24m west terminal extension. Another £2.3m is to be spent on improvements to the Silver Zone car park.
CEO of Bristol Airport Robert Sinclair said: “Completion of the west terminal extension will enable us to turn our attention to the immigration area, where passengers can sometimes wait longer than we would like at the busiest times. By enlarging and reconfiguring this area and introducing the latest Border Force technology we aim to make arriving at Bristol Airport as fast and efficient as possible.”
