Airbus poised for Iranian order
Filton-based Airbus could be set for a boost as the lifting of Iranian economic sanctions yesterday triggered rumours of a 114 passenger plane order amid the flurry of Iranian economic activity.
2015 was a record year for Airbus, delivering 635 aircraft for 85 customers. It’s the thirteenth year of growth for the firm, which employs 4,500 people at its Filton plant.
Iran Air’s fleet have an average age in excess of 20 years, compared to an average of 12.7 years for British Airways and 5.8 years for monied Middle Eastern airline Etihad. The lifting of economic sanctions make it possible for the country’s airlines to negotiate renewal aircraft procurement after 14 years of restrictions.
An Airbus spokesperson said: “We are studying our way forward in view of this new environment – in full compliance with all international laws.”
