Bristol-based period product company becomes B Corp

By Charlie Watts  Monday Sep 25, 2023

A Bristol-based business says its certification as a B Corporation makes it the most sustainable period care brand in the UK and Europe.

Grace & Green, which is based on Ravenswood Road in Redland, provides 100 per cent certified-organic, ethical and sustainable period products.

Launched in 2019, the company is now the highest scoring B Corp in organic-certified period care and is ranked in the top 10 per cent of B Corps globally.

Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

Grace & Green was launched in 2019 after years of research and product development by founder Fran Lucraft

Fran Lucraft, founder at Grace & Green, said: “After spending over a decade in the water and sanitation sector and having witnessed first-hand how conventional period products impact our water systems and oceans, I knew that I had to do something to help solve this problem.

“We believe that access to safe and sustainable period products is a basic right and it’s why ethics and equal access are at the heart of all we do.

“Grace & Green is more than just ethical products, we work to tackle period poverty and stigma on a daily basis, advocating for free period products in all public spaces.

“The majority of the company is also owned by the people who make our vision a reality everyday.

“Becoming the highest scoring B Corp period brand in the UK confirms and celebrates this commitment.”

Conventional period care brands have up to 90 per cent plastic in their products and use raw materials that are grown with pesticides, treated with bleach and often have added fragrances.

But Grace & Green’s period products are created from 100 per cent organic-certified cotton and bamboo that is biodegradable and free from any synthetic chemicals.

As part of their period dignity initiative, the company also provides products free of charge to organisations that tackle period poverty.

Grace & Green is now part of a community of 7,000 businesses globally who have certified as B Corps, joining a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.
