Bristol Bicycles turns two

By Laura Collacott  Monday Mar 27, 2017

Independent bike company Bristol Bicycles has celebrated its second anniversary.

The company has sold more than 450 commuter-friendly, affordable hybrid bikes since March 2015, which are all hand-built by sister company Jake’s Bikes on Haymarket Walk between the Bearpit and the bus station.

“We’ve been amazed at the level of demand,” said founder Jake Voelcker, who names his bikes after areas of Bristol such as Park Street and Stokes Croft.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

“With our experience of servicing and repairing bikes for commuters, we know what makes a good city bike and we’d proud of what we’ve achieved with Bristol Bicycles.”

Bristol Bicycles was set up with a goal to get more people cycling for a healthier, greener city. So far, more than 130 of the bikes have been procured and are being used by local businesses including the city council and Hewlett Packard, with 111 bikes on loan to students at UWE.

Future plans include the launch of an electric bike later this year.

To celebrate the second birthday, owners of a Bristol Bicycle are invited to take part in a family-friendly cycle ride led by Jake on Saturday, April 22. A limited number of Bristol Bicycles hire bikes will also be available.
