Bristol bike company wants to become biggest e-bike maker in Britain

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Sep 8, 2022

True lifetime guarantees are a rare find these days, especially on a product that you’re likely to use every day. Even less so on a product that you’ll likely cover thousands of miles in all weathers in and on any terrain.

But the lifetime guarantee and simple, elegant bikes that can take you anywhere are the foundations of Temple Cycles excellent reputation, that extends around the globe from their humble roots in Bristol.

It’s this reputation that is turbo-charging their expansion. In their latest round of equity funding, Temple Cycles have already overfunded on Crowdcube, smashing their original £700,000 target. But there is still chance for people to get involved. Anyone over 18 can invest as little as £10 to be a part of the Temple Cycles journey.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

Matt Mears started building bikes whilst studying mechanical engineering at the University of Bristol. He spotted a gap in the market for timeless, quality bikes and founded Temple in 2015.

Matt said “Modern bikes are becoming harder to service and have built in redundancy. We believe that products should endure, maximising their impact and reducing the need to consume more. That’s why we design our bikes to last, make them universally serviceable, backing this up with lifetime warranties.

“As societies transition over to green forms of transport, bikes and electric bikes will be a big part of the future. Temple aims to become the biggest bicycle producer in the UK, creating high quality and sustainable bikes that last a lifetime.”

Matt and the Temple Cycles team are set to continue their expansion with their latest round of equity funding to expand sales into Europe and increase their electric bike range. The crowdfunding is live now until 16 September. Having already raised over £1million from over 700 loyal customers and investors, the next step on their meteoric rise is set to be a success.

Matt added “With more and more people choosing sustainable transport, especially with rising fuel prices and terrible Bristol traffic, we want to expand our range of e-bikes so that we have products suitable for everyone – whether you’ve been cycling all your life and want to continue to do so or whether you just need a bit of extra help getting up Park Street”

Since their last investment round, Temple Cycles has grown revenues by over 15 times, accrued more than 15,000 customers worldwide, and demonstrated an international demand with 16% of products exported. This year, Soho House made Temple Cycles their partner supplier in placing a first order of 500 bikes.
