Paying it forward with free Bristol start-up
A new Bristol-born start up is encouraging community spirit in an increasingly disconnected world. Helpfulpeeps, a social network co-founded by Saf Nazeer and Simon Hills, is built on the belief that life is better when we help each other.
With a similar aim to The Free Help Guy, the platform presents an opportunity to volunteer directly. Using a Facebook login to connect you with a community of other people, users can ask for help at any time. Requests range from asking for conversation exchanges, musicians, charity shop volunteers and website designers.
Users can also offer help to others, where arrangements are then made in private messaging mode. It is branded as the #PayItForward social network.
No money crosses hands as the platform is free to use, and the website claims you earn karma through helping others. Testimonials from the people you’ve helped presents an opportunity for others to show their gratitude. It’s about sharing time, knowledge and skills, and celebrating kindness and generosity.
As well as providing a platform for individuals to ask for help, the initiative is currently asking for gift donations of toys and clothing to give to parents who may struggle to get their children Christmas presents.
