Bristol City Centre BID is successful

By Aphra Evans  Thursday Jul 6, 2017

Improvements will be made across the city centre, making it more attractive and in the process hoping to boost the area’s economy, following businesses voting in favour of the Bristol City Centre BID (Business Improvement District).

The proposals span the harbourside, Park Street, the city centre, Old City and Cabot Circus, and will deal with infrastructure issues like waste management, air quality, and traffic flow.

It also promises to tackle vacant premises and anti-social behaviour, while putting on a programme of cultural events.

Businesses within Broadmead will not have to contribute to two BIDs

All businesses within the area will now contribute towards the £6m investment by paying 1.5 per cent of their rateable value annually for the next five years.

Bristol City Centre BID is the city’s fifth, joining existing BIDs in Broadmead, Clifton Village, Cater Business Park, Bedminster and Gloucester Road.

Keith Rundle of Destination Bristol said: “It is great news that the BID proposal received such a high level of approval in the ballot. Now begins the hard work of ensuring we deliver great value to our levy payers from November 1 onwards. Exciting and no doubt challenging times lie ahead as we work to improve the city centre for all.”
