Bristol Housing Festival launches architecture competition
The Bristol Housing Festival, in partnership with Trinity College, has launched a creative architecture competition to find a partner to design the new student accommodation for the theological college.
The competition is open to all and candidates are encouraged to use Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) that are highly sustainable and meet the needs of the Bristol college.

The competition is the result of a growing need for campus accommodation. Trinity College hopes to find a partner that will meet the needs of its students and enhance their experience, as well as understand the vocation of the college and how the building could impact the future of theological and ministerial training.
Trinity College site development lead, Malcolm Bourne, said “The architecture competition is a really exciting venture, which will allow us to provide innovative and sustainable accommodation for our students.
“We’re looking to pursue a broader vision for housing and community building that aligns with the vision of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s commission on housing, church and community and its focus on ‘building better communities and homes, not just houses’.”

The competition is structured in three rounds. Round one is an open invite to interested parties to provide concept designs for the site before 9am on Friday, March 19 2020.
In round two a short list of designs will be selected, and entrants will be offered the chance to meet the site development group and pitch their designs.
In round three, a partner will be commissioned to work with the college to deliver a working design for the student village.

“It’s fantastic to be working in partnership with them. The competition presents a truly enriching opportunity to trial new ideas not only for the college, but for the wider housing sector.”
