Bristol’s business events industry generated £259m in 2016

By Aphra Evans  Tuesday Aug 1, 2017

The latest report from Destination Bristol on the region’s conference and business events sector shows it brought more than £259 million to the region in 2016.

The figures are at their highest since the annual report began in 2011, thanks to a range of factors such as an increase in events and a more buoyant residential event market, with longer stays and higher rates.

Kathryn Davis of Destination Bristol, which is charged with promoting the area as a destination for conferences and meetings, said, “This is a huge result for the Bristol region and we are delighted with such an incredible performance. The conference, meetings and business events market is incredibly diverse and engages corporate and association business locally, nationally, and increasingly, internationally.

“The growing reputation for dining and retail also enhance the appeal of the destination, alongside practical aspects of access.”

Thanks to a growing scene of event organisers in Bristol, plus the city’s countless museums and art galleries, concert venues, and attractions, there are interesting and unique options on offer for business events.

Ashton Gate in particular is likely to contribute significantly to the sector’s boom, as the stadium became the largest conference and events venue in the South West following a recent £45 million redevelopment.
