After it came about during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Yuup has recruited hosts from different areas of Bristol including over 60 from the most deprived areas of the city.
Its ambition is for 25 per cent of Yuup hosts to come from Lower Layer Super Output Areas which sit in the top 50 per cent of most deprived areas in England.
Founder and CEO of Yuup, Dominic Mills, said: “One of the things I’m most proud of is Yuup’s ability to enable some of the more ethnically diverse neighbourhoods to share their cultures and skills with others in the city.
“Some examples are the communities of St Pauls, Stokes Croft, Easton and Lawrence Hill, where we have recruited a diverse range of hosts offering world drumming, traditional afrikan and reggae dance, supper clubs, and indigenous storytelling experiences.
“In addition to our primary focus on economic impact, experiences are a more sustainable way to spend money than purchasing goods, reducing environmental impact. There is no manufacturing footprint, no delivery miles and no packaging.”
In 2023 Yuup, which also operates in Bath and Birmingham, is aiming to generate over £3m for local communities.
