Chance for young women in south Bristol to be change-makers of the future
A new programme aims to prepare young women in south Bristol for emerging opportunities in the growing sustainability sector.
Following a successful pilot project, Catalyse Change is set to provide up to six months support, guidance and mentoring for participants seeking to become the change-makers of the future.
The programme is aimed at young women between the ages of 14 and 19 from disadvantaged backgrounds in south Bristol and will be funded by Bristol City Council and Quartet Community Foundation through their Youth Sector Support Fund.

Traci Lewis, programme manager, said, “There are growing opportunities for work in sustainability.
“Nationally, it is predicted that the low carbon economy will produce two million new jobs in the next twelve years. Young women need support now to fill these roles in the future.
“We do this by focusing on ways we can inspire, empower and skill them to actively pursue futures as sustainability leaders and the next generation of change-agents.”
The project aims to help raise the aspirations, confidence and educational achievements for young women in south Bristol, giving them the tools to become leaders and change-makers of the future.
Ruby Dixon, a recent participant in a Catalyse Change programme, said the opportunity has been really useful for her.
“At first, I found it quite nerve-racking, but I became much more comfortable as it went on,” she said.
“The mentoring has helped me with streamlining my goals and realising my potential. I have done so much in trying to get my local council to recycle since the mentoring began.”
