Crowdfunding campaign launches to help green business blossom
From Thursday, June 1, 20 projects are racing to raise the money they need for a match-fund initiative that has a combined target of £100k.
Finalists include the heart-warming Arnos Vale Community Garden, which would transform a favourite fly-tipping spot into a green space to be enjoyed by schoolchildren and patients from Callington Road Hospital. On the stranger end of the spectrum is Bristol Eely Good Times, geared towards the conservation of critically endangered wild eels through hydroponic watercress production.
The community groups, charities, social enterprises and small businesses involved have just 28 days to crowdfund 50% of their overall target from at least 40 backers. If they succeed, the Better Bristol match-fund, a partnership with popular crowdfunding platform Crowdfunder, will donate the other 50% of their target, while cash stocks last.
Bristol Green Capital Partnership CIC has pledged £45,000 to nurturing the ideas that will make Bristol a more environmentally friendly city, of which a prize of £5000 is reserved for the project considered most committed to inclusion and equality.
Meanwhile, a host of quirky rewards are available to the all-important backers, ranging from night-time cemetery tours to a meal in a Michelin-starred restaurant and upholstery workshops.
