Eat Pies: Plant Trees – Pieminister’s sustainability mission

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Apr 13, 2021

If the delicious pies and the newly reopened terrace down at the Broad Quay restaurant weren’t enough, there’s even more incentive for you to head down to Pieminister this month.

Pieminister has teamed up with Forestry England and is on a mission to create Pleasant Forest – a new forest that will be grown on unused land in Kent.

Every time you buy one of the new plant-based pie or patty, 10p will go towards the planting and caring of trees at Pleasant Farm.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

“We want to help consumers consume sustainably which is why we’re increasing the number of plant-based pies and patties we make,” said Jon Simon, the Pieminister Co-founder.

“Eating less meat and planting more trees are two simple things we can all do for the health of our planet, so we’re delighted to bring these two actions together this summer through Eat Pies: Plant Trees.  And we couldn’t be happier to be doing this in partnership with Forestry England.  They’ve been caring for forests for over a century, so we know they’re the people to plant and nurture our new forest for generations to come.”

To help Pieminister plant as many trees as possible, you can pick from the growing plant-based range. As well as the best-selling Kevin, Mooless Moo and Mock-a-doodle, the Evergreen is now available all summer too, which is packed with kale, spinach and edamame, lightly cooked in ginger, garlic and lime zest.

The campaign is running until September and is just one of the initiatives that the family-run business is doing to achieve a series of sustainability goals.

Mike Seddon, the Forestry England chief executive, said: “Trees are one of our most important tools in tackling the climate crisis – capturing carbon, alleviating flooding and cooling our urban environments are just some of the vital benefits they provide. We design and plant forests to thrive well into the future, in time giving us green places for play or adventure, sustainable timber and homes for wildlife.

“We are delighted to be working with Pieminister, as they offer up this range of award-winning, plant-based options on their menus. By helping us to grow the nation’s forests, they are playing an important role in encouraging communities and nature to flourish.”
