Elizabeth Shaw sold to Polish food company
Bristol born chocolate brand Elizabeth Shaw – famous for the Mint Crisp – has been sold to confectionary producer and distributor Colian Holding SA in a £2.3m deal. It transfers 100 per cent ownership from previous owners Imagine Capital AS, a Scandinavian investment fund.
Colian is a Poland-based sweet company with a range of 250 products including nuts, wafers, biscuits and candies; it already produces waffles and cookies for the UK market. It has a strong domestic market and exports to more than 60 countries.
The company has described the purchase as “a significant move” as part of its strategies to move into overseas markets against a backdrop of increasing appetite for British confectionary products globally.
Elizabeth Shaw’s managing director Karen Crawford said: “Colian has a wealth of experience in the confectionery market and ambitious growth plans. The acquisition of Elizabeth Shaw brings a well-respected quality Brand with English heritage into the Colian portfolio. I am delighted and excited to be working with them on the next phase of Elizabeth Shaw’s expansion.”
Now headquartered in Stoke Gifford, Elizabeth Shaw was founded in 1881 as HJ Packer in St Paul’s Armoury Square. Chocolates were manufactured at the Greenbank factory from 1903 until its closure in 2006.
