Green Skills programme kicks off next round of recruitment

By Ellie Pipe  Tuesday Aug 2, 2022

People interested in setting up their own sustainable business can now apply to take part in a unique training programme.

Aimed at Black and minoritised participants aged 18 to 28 who are not in full-time employment, the Green Skills course is designed to provide business, leadership, employment and networking skills with an environmental focus.

Black South West Network (BSWN) has teamed up with UWE Bristol and NatWest to deliver the four week, paid training programme which kicks off in September.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

Speaking about the course, previous participant Mia Ashley says: “The team has been super supportive of my career plans and future goals. It has been amazing to hear from the diverse and incredibly inspirational professionals working towards a more sustainable and promising future.”

The course will provide participants with the chance to join industry and community leaders to increase their network and knowledge, provide access to career advice, coaching and mentoring and offer further paid opportunities or support to launch a startup.

The Green Skills programme focuses on:

  • Leadership, employment and networking skills
  • How to set up an ethical business or social enterprise
  • An introduction to green topics and businesses working in areas such as food, fashion, innovation, housing and energy
  • Funded opportunities after the training – growing a business idea, fully-paid internships, or further training

The training will take place two days a week in the new BSWN Social Enterprise Incubator in the Coach House in St Paul’s, at UWE’s Frenchay campus and will include visits to local businesses, with the cost of travel and refreshments covered.

People over the age of 28 who have graduated in the last five years are also welcome to apply.

Information sessions are being held on Wednesday and Thursday. Further information and booking is available via:
