HS2 bosses seek suppliers in Bristol
The HS2 project team brought a roadshow to Bristol as they tour the country to tell businesses how they can bid for contracts in the multi-billion pound scheme.
Bristol might not stand to benefit directly from the infrastructure when it comes online from 2026, but the array of businesses here do. The project’s supply chain will spend millions in UK businesses, with opportunities ranging from archaeology surveys, groundworks, civil engineering, technology, environmental studies, off-site manufacturing, design, communications and – of course – the trains themselves.
“The south west has a really good base of great skills and capabilities,” says HS2’s commercial director Beth West. “We’ve had a great response here. Some good businesses have come along. It’s been a full house with some engaging questions.”
“We want HS2 to be a game changer, not just in rail,” she continues, emphasising the centrality of innovation to their design and build ethos. “It’s important we make sure businesses across the UK are aware of the opportunities.”
