Launch of Business in Sport

By Ellie Pipe  Wednesday Jun 26, 2019

A love of sport has inspired a new networking initiative that aims to bring business people across Bristol together through a common interest.

David Smith, who played professional football for Lincoln City, is the brains behind Business in Sport, a membership club that seeks to connect enterprise with sporting ambition, while also supporting grassroots clubs.

The Bristol-based businessman already has support from some big names in sport, including snooker ace Judd Trump, Paralympic legend Jon Amos and international ski star and two-time Paralympic winner Anna Turney, who will be speaking at the launch event at the Village Hotel in Filton on Wednesday (June 26).

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

Anna Turney will speak about her battle through adversity to success

Members stand to benefit from networking opportunities, sporting occasions and special club events, and part of the membership fee will be ring-fenced to help grassroots clubs and organisations. There is also the chance to sponsor the region’s rising sports stars.

“From new goal posts for a local football team to stumps and bats for a village cricket club, Business in Sport wants to promote sport and help everyone enjoy its benefits,” says David, who is passionate about ensuring grassroots sport is better funded.

“Giving back to the community through sport helps thousands of people in the region participate in and enjoy sports – and gives our locals businesses the chance to be at the heart of something very special.”

Business in Sport also supports a network of more than 600 up-and-coming athletes and sports people, who will be making appearances at the organisation’s Rising Stars events throughout the year.

Members have the option to help sponsor someone training for the next Olympic Games or World Championship in their chosen sport.

“We want business to share in the success of our brilliant sports stars of the future and be associated with that winning mentality,” adds David.

Village Hotels and Metro Bank are the two main sponsors of Business in Sport and Bristol Good Food Awards is also participating.
