New shop and community space set to open
An entrepreneur who turned a passion for terrariums into a thriving business is now set to open a new shop in Old Market.
Joe Rees started Ome in 2020 and quickly developed a significant e-commerce presence in the UK.
The terrariums are all made from scratch by Joe in a studio that he has now outgrown due to the popularity of the business, which is expanding into new premises next month.
Ome has previously run pop-up shops, seminars and lectures to educate the public on the environmental importance and beauty of homemade terrariums.
“The shop will mainly sell terrariums but will also be a space for the community,” Joe tells Bristol24/7, outlining plans to exhibit work by local artists, host live music events and run workshops to educate people on the world of glass ecosystems.
Joe and his partner, Heather, hope to create new job opportunities and contribute to the high street through the new shop.

Terrariums are a creation of art, nature and science. They are closed, self-sustaining ecosystems in which plants can thrive.
The couple say there are many benefits to having a terrarium in your home, such as improved health, creativity, as well as a connection with nature.
