Newly appointed chairman of Grundon keen to grow business in Bristol
The new chairman of the UK’s largest family-owned waste management company is “excited” for what the future holds for the business in Bristol.
Grundon Waste Management, which was founded in 1929 and recently launched in the city, operates from St Philip’s Marsh.
Newly appointed chairman, Neil Grundon joined the family business in 1992 and 20 years later in 2012 he was appointed deputy chairman. He said: “We’ve recently launched in Bristol and I’m excited about the potential for our business here.
“It’s a city which takes recycling and environmental issues seriously and our growth here is a key priority in our business strategy going forward.”
Neil Grundon has been appointed as the new Chairman of Grundon Waste Management, replacing his father Norman who has held the role since 1993.

Neil has taken over from his father, Norman Grundon, who is the former chairman and now president of the company (pictured left).
The appointment makes Neil the third generation of the Grundon family to head up the business, which has a £120 million turnover and together with sister company Grundon Sand & Gravel, employs over 850 people.
Within the business, Neil has focused on alternative recycling methods and recovery technologies – including the use of artificial intelligence and robotic pickers at its recycling facilities.
Neil has also played a part in overseeing a 78 per cent reduction in carbon emissions companywide since 2000. With a commitment to sustainability, he has spearheaded the use of electric and diesel-hybrid waste collection vehicles.

Neil added: “I am delighted to take on the position of chairman and would like to express my gratitude to my father for his trust and advice over the years.
“I share his same passion for retaining an enterprising spirit within the business and the drive to continuously improve and be at the forefront of innovation.
“With a clear strategy, capable leadership team and excellent people across our diverse workforce, I fully believe Grundon is well-positioned and perfectly equipped to capitalise on the numerous opportunities available.
“My aim is to grow the business and pass it to the next generation in a stronger place, just as my father and grandfather have to me.”
Norman Grundon, who has been chairman since 1993, expressed his confidence in his son and his new role, he said: “These are exciting times for the business, and I am positive that through our continued reinvestment, we will see Grundon Waste Management continue to go from strength-to-strength with Neil at the helm.”
