Skills bootcamp to launch for aspiring animators
Leading lights in the animation sector have collaborated to launch a free ten-week bootcamp for people looking to get a foot in the door.
NextGen Skills Academy has partnered with A Productions and Aardman Animations for the Accelerate in Animation Skills bootcamp that aims to support the next generation of animators who are seeking to turn their passion into a profession.
Geared toward people over the age of 19 who have intermediate 3D animation skills, this programme aims to propel budding animators into the competitive animation industry by offering specialised training and guidance.
NextGen Skills Academy works to bring industry and education together and facilitators of this project have crafted a curriculum that meets industry standards and provides invaluable insights into the animation sector.
Aspiring animators seeking a foothold in the field will benefit from expertly curated content and mentorship from professionals renowned in the field.
The participants needs to be based in the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) region and the course is a perfect fit for recent animation graduates and those will self-taught skills who are ready to take their passion to the professional level.
Accelerate in Animation is part of the Skills Bootcamps Programme funded and managed by the West of England Combined Authority, and delivered by NextGen Skills Academy. WECA has allocated £40,000 for the initiative.
Metro mayor Dan Norris, who leads WECA, said: “I’m proud to launch this £40,000 West of England Aspiring Animators programme led by the brilliant NextGen, A Productions and Aardman.
“It means those creative West of England residents starting out within the animation industry will get even more opportunities they need to go on and thrive, giving a platform to the next generation of talent who will shape the West’s creative future. Hopefully, it’ll inspire many more animation careers in the process.”
Those taking part will work collaboratively on an industry brief that has been approved by A Productions and Aardman, and participants will benefit from the wisdom of dedicated tutors and animation professionals through masterclasses and studio insights.
The course will provide students a deeper understanding of the animation industry, enhance their technical skills, help them acquire real experience of the animation pipeline and build an impressive portfolio of work.
The Accelerate in Animation Skills Bootcamp takes place between January and March 2024 and the deadline for applications is Thursday, December 14.
