By Charlie Watts  Monday Jul 26, 2021

An outdoor equipment retailer is set to open its first store in Bristol at the end of next month, creating six new jobs.

Alpkit is moving into the former Lloyds Bank building on Whiteladies Road in Clifton.

The new shop will sell clothing and equipment for a range of activities including running, hiking, climbing, camping, swimming and biking.

David Hanney, CEO of Alpkit, said: “We’ve had our eye on Bristol for a while as it’s renowned as a biking and outdoor hub and a brilliant base to enjoy everything on the surrounding doorstep.

“Whether it’s a bike ride across to Ashton Court or a dip in the River Avon, we’re delighted to be bringing Alpkit to the community.

“The former Lloyds Bank is a well-known building in Bristol and we’re looking forward to putting all our energy into bringing it back to life and investing into providing a high street centrepiece.”

Alpkit will also run community events, outdoor skills courses, group bike rides and walks from the new store.

There will be a workshop to mend and repair any brand of outdoor product or bike as well.

Alpkit was founded in 2004 and has seven stores across the country, with the Bristol one being the fourth the retailer has opened this year.
