Record year for easyJet at Bristol Airport

By Laura Collacott  Monday Mar 20, 2017

easyJet has posted an 11 per cent year-on-year increase in the number of passengers from Bristol Airport in 2016, flying more than 4.2 million passengers. The increase represents more than 400,000 extra people, two million of whom were travelling for business.

The airline began operating from Bristol in 2002 and has increased seat capacity by 39 per cent over the past five years. It has ongoing expansion plans for 2017, increasing the number of seats on sale by 6.7 percent over its 62 routes.

In 2016 the airline launched new routes to Vienna, Basel, Venice, Nantes, Dubrovnik, Gran Canaria and Turin and, this summer, will launch flights to Kefalonia and Pula.  Heightened demand has also seen the frequency of flights to some destinations increase.

Commercial manager for easyJet Ali Gayward commented: “We have seen increasing demand year on year at Bristol airport.

“We remain committed to growing in Bristol. easyJet will continue to ensure it is easy and affordable for people, flying to and from Bristol to have direct air links to as many European destinations as possible.”

Pete Downes, head of aviation at Bristol Airport added: “During a three year timescale, easyJet have launched sixteen new routes from Bristol Airport offering passengers choice and flexibility of an enhanced route network plus a wider range of leisure destinations. The on-going route development demonstrates the strong partnership which reduces the need for passengers from the South West and Wales region to travel further afield, whether for business, leisure or inbound tourism.”
