SETsquared Bristol’s Tech-Xpo returns for 2020
Startups from the city’s world-leading tech scene will be pitching and demonstrating their latest innovations at the inaugural online version of SETsquared Bristol’s Tech-Xpo.
Organisers say the shift into the virtual world will enable companies to interact and connect with a wider national audience of influential investors, business leaders and potential partners.
Taking place on Tuesday, June 30 from 5pm-7pm, the 16th instalment of the event will see a diverse range of businesses, including AutonoMe, Barbal, Bristol Pound, Byrde, Elvie, GenomeKey, getUbetter, iletpro, KETS, Radii Devices and Zentraxa, compete for the coveted Best Elevator Pitch, which is voted on by the audience.
Among the previous winners are LettUs Grow, an indoor vertical farming technology provider that has gone on to raise £3m, and Vitamica, a University of Bristol spin-out that is helping the fight against antibiotic resistance through pioneering work in the medical diagnostics sector.
Steve Edwards, SETsquared Bristol centre director, said: “We’re proud to be showcasing this year’s brilliant line-up of companies, with talent from a diverse range of sectors, from healthtech to quantum.
“Innovation has never been more important than now to the global economy and we are excited about the capabilities for this event to reach a more diverse audience and to provide new learnings to create blended physical and virtual events in the future.”
Lisa Matthews, the CEO of HellyHolly who was named one of The Telegraph’s Top 50 Women in Engineering, is also a past Tech-Xpo award winner, as is Interactive Scientific, another Bristol University spinout that generated more than £1.3m in seed development.
Bristol Pound, which recently announced major changes as part of a new partnership, will be pitching at Tech-Xpo 2020 for the second time.
Diana Finch, the managing director of Bristol Pound, said: “Pitching at Tech-Xpo 2020 is a great opportunity to get the word out about our latest developments at Bristol Pound. I’m really looking forward to having the chance to talk directly to a virtual room full of people, all of whom have the potential to become key stakeholders in our future plans.
