Social enterprise to appoint new CEO
A social enterprise that works to transform the lives of young people from ethnic minority and low-income backgrounds has announced that it is to appoint a new CEO as part of its long-term vision.
Poku Osei, who founded Babbasa in 2013 and is its current CEO, has said he will transitioning to the new role of founding director.
In Babbasa’s September newsletter, Osei writes that his new role is part of the St Paul’s-based social enterprise’s growth ambitions.
“The objective for Babbasa has always stayed the same – work with communities and businesses, to create and offer career opportunities for less advantaged young people across the globe,” he wrote.
“In line with this ambition, Babbasa has i) further strengthened its governance board and ii) recently approved a plan to explore what Babbasa operations might look like in other cities struggling with social mobility and inequality.”

Osei continued: “In line with this plan, I’m glad to confirm that I will be transitioning into a new ‘founding director’ role, to focus on exploring the expansion of Babbasa into other cities, overseeing OurCity2030 and undertaking some consultancy work in line with my expertise.
“A new CEO will therefore be recruited to be responsible for day-to-day operations, and working alongside the Babbasa leadership team, continue to work with young people and businesses to make Bristol a fairer, more equal city.”
The recruitment process for the new CEO role is now open.
Osei, who won a top social enterprise award earlier in 2023, incorporated Babbasa as a community interest company in 2013 with the support of volunteers and young people.
In the decade since, the social enterprise has built a team of 20-plus staff members, nurtured a network of 200-plus ambassadors, worked with 500-plus cross-sector agencies and impacted the lives of more than 4,000 young people.
