SS Great Britain partners with Great Western Credit Union

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Feb 3, 2022

SS Great Britain Trust is the latest organisation to join Great Western Credit Union’s MONEY@WORK scheme.

The scheme, which is in partnership with 30 organisations including Airbus and Bristol City Council, offers access to affordable and flexible savings and loan plans to over 35,000 employees across South West England.

SS Great Britain is a Living Wage employer and the organisation joined the scheme in December 2021 so that all 80 paid employees and 250 volunteers have access to financial support.

Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

For Great Western Credit Union, this partnership highlights the travel and tourism sector, a sector that has been identified as one where employees can more often struggle to access mainstream services.

Angela Spreadbury, director of finance and resources at SS Great Britain Trust, said “We wanted to provide the services of Great Western Credit Union to help support all staff and volunteers with their financial wellbeing.

“It is easy to set up and we are confident that everyone who takes up any of the services available will be looked after by Great Western Credit Union throughout the whole process.”

In the scheme, repayments and savings are automatically withdrawn from employees’ monthly salaries. In addition, employees can also take advantage of the LOANS@WORK scheme with Great Western Credit Union, making borrowing simpler.

All profits that the Great Western Credit Union make are reinvested into their services, shared between their members as dividends or used to support relevant community initiatives and local projects.
