Start-up service leads the way on inclusive growth
Inclusive work and growth in the business sector was showcased at a recent event which celebrated the successes of OutSet. The company provides support to entrepreneurs, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Mayor of Bristol, Marvin Rees, and other city business leaders, came together to champion start-ups that have worked with OutSet over the last decade. Ten of these businesses showcased their products at the event, ranging from chilli sauces to hand-made bags.
OutSet is a service highlighting the importance of inclusive growth, with nearly half of entrepreneurs that the organisation supports coming from black, asian and minority ethnic backgrounds. Rees said “Services like OutSet help our city continue growing into a place of culture and creativity. We want to deliver an economy in Bristol that is inclusive and sustainable for all.
“To do this, the business community must work together to ensure everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their potential and share in the future growth of the city.”
Now in its tenth year, OutSet has supported over 6,000 businesses and 23,000 entrepreneurs, offering free enterprise workshops and advice.
The event highlighted the successes and inclusivity of OutSet’s Bristol branch, which has help 200 entrepreneurs and 30 businesses in the city.
Ellie Webb, a local start-up owner, built her brand of non-alcoholic spirit, Caleño, with the help of OutSet and launched it for Dry January. “The idea of starting up a business was completely new to me but with the help of the people at OutSet, I was given the confidence to get started.
“I’d encourage all budding entrepreneurs to reach out to this service and give your idea a go – you never know where it will take you.”
