The man on a mission to eradicate Bristol’s dog waste
Over a cooked breakfast in Totterdown Canteen, Nick Avery talks passionately about how much he hates dog fouling.
“I think Britain’s got a dog waste problem and Bristol is amongst it,” he says. “Unfortunately, due to council cutbacks, there’s not enough bins.”
He continues: “Also, I do believe that there are people who have become blatantly lazy and pick up after their dogs but then leave it in bushes and trees – and this is where the Pawfect Bag will make a difference.”

Available in 14 colours, with or without paw prints, the bag has three pockets – two of which are removable and washable.
The first pocket is for personal items such as your phone and keys; the second is for empty poo bags and other dog products; and the third is for full poo bags.
Nick, who owns a jackawawa, says he came up with the product after becoming fed up with picking up other people’s dog mess.

The 62-year-old says: “I was walking around beautiful Bristol, and I ended up carrying bags of poo, clearing up after the dogs.
“I thought there must be a better idea, and this is where the light bulb moment came.
“Not wanting to carry bags of poo between my fingers, I wanted a bag I could put them in.”

The Pawfect Bag, which costs £38.99, is manufactured in Devon.
Nick adds: “I, for one, am very proud to be British, having served in the armed forces for 22 years – and I wanted something which reflected what Britain can do.”
