The Pitch 2021 launches – a major competition for startups

By Ellie Pipe  Tuesday Apr 27, 2021

A small Bristol-based team is on a mission to make 3,000 promising startups investment-ready and provide them with a platform.

The Pitch 2021 competition is now open for applicants from across Britain and Ireland, offering company founders the opportunity to work with a coach and pitch to industry experts and investors.

The top ten startups go on to compete on the national stage to win a “money-can’t-buy package” of mentoring and support from well-known entrepreneurs – and the chance to gain investment.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

The 2021 programme includes free online educational resources, workshops and live pitching events, all designed to equip founders and entrepreneurs with the skills they need to take their business to the next level.

“The Pitch is committed to giving 3,000 UK startups the tools they need to become investment-ready – and take their business to the next level,” says Chris Goodfellow, founder of The Pitch.

“The competition and package of mentoring and learning, which is completely free, will equip thousands of startups with the skills and opportunity to raise the money they need to grow.”

The Pitch HQ is in Origin Workspace on Berkeley Square and Chris says he is proud to represent Bristol, especially as so much startup and investment activity is still London-centric.

The competition aims to help startups create a brilliant pitch and gives them a platform to use it. The Pitch helps people with ideas and small businesses that have been trading for up to three years.

Applications are now open. Throughout May and June, there is a free package of online learning and webinars, which anybody can access. Regional semi-finals will be held in October and the final is in November.

This year’s programme is supported by Sage, Crowdcube, SimpleWeb, Agora and FounderCatalyst. Each of which is providing support and exclusive offers to The Pitch community.

Kirsty Waller, vice president UKI marketing at Sage, says: “The pandemic has seen many individual’s mindset shift on their working circumstances, with many now looking to take the plunge and start their own business.

“Sage is supporting The Pitch in order to give ambitious entrepreneurs the advice and resources needed to help them achieve their business goals.”
