Bristol! The Wave needs your help

By Laura Collacott  Thursday Jun 4, 2015

A giant surfing lake on the outskirts of Bristol – just how much fun would that be!

The Wave is tantalisingly close to becoming a reality but now needs the help of everyone in Bristol to win a fantastic opportunity thanks to Sir Richard Branson.

It’s reached the final stages of Virgin’s Pitch to Rich competition and now you can help secure their place in the final.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

Cast your ballot for The Wave here.

Thirty-two semi-finalists were selected by judges from over 2,400 entrants. Now the final three will be decided by public vote to give a trio of business finalists the opportunity to pitch to Branson for a £150,000 prize as well as marketing support for a year.

The Wave is currently sitting in fourth place and is calling on their home city to help it inch into the final.

“We need votes and we need them now! Right now,” says founder Nick Hounsfield. “There are just a few days left and we need the people of the Bristol region to get behind us and offer up a project that makes waves of positive change, Bristol Fashion.”

You also could win yourself £10,000 for your troubles, with Virgin entering all voters into a prize draw.

“I stumbled across the competition on LinkedIn and the more I read, the more I realised we ticked many, many boxes,” adds Nick. “This would put our project in the hands of experts who could us help us build a marketing plan that will help us achieve our full potential.

“The ability to pitch to Richard Branson would be nerve wracking yet exciting. His support and resources would take this project to where it needs to be. A big vision needs a team and partners who are able to maximise its impact.

“The money would allow me to concentrate on delivering the project. Currently I am the marketing team and have been for four years, 24/7 with no prior experience. It would be great to spread the workload and do it in a more structured fashion!”

Nick’s goals for the water park are bold: “Our project is epic. It will be cool, engaging and hopefully deliver some important messages that will help Bristol region become active, healthier, caring and future facing. The project is a game changer as a business, as a visitor destination and as a place that inspires a happier society.”

So come on Bristol! Let’s make this happen. Cast your ballot for The Wave here. Voting closes at 10am on Tuesday, June 16.
