UK’s biggest SME competition concludes
Complaints portal Resolver has been crowned winner of the Pitch 2015, the UK’s largest, annual small business competition, in a final hosted at the Paintworks. It marks the end of a challenging, six-month round of workshops and boot camps, where 30 of the UK’s most promising small businesses were whittled from a shortlist of 100 to pitch live on stage to investors, the media and a judging panel.
Resolver, backed by popular website Money Saving Expert, offers consumers and businesses a free framework in which to raise complaints with service companies, understanding that the process can often be time consuming and frustrating. It supports consumers through the process, making recommendations on next steps and helping to keep track of your complaint. The company wins a business support package worth thousands of pounds, including office space, accounting software, marketing and PR advice.
Matt Rigby, the Brand Manager of Resolver, entered the competition in order to benefit from the workshops and bootcamps along the process, as well as the consultancy in the winning package. The company is hoping to gain from an outsider perspective of the mentors in order to review the service moving forwards and gain additional clarity and direction to help take the company to the next steps.
Matt Rigby commented on the company’s win: “As a new and growing business, it’s important for us to get recognition. There are not many awards for young start-ups; what the Pitch offers is mentoring and help to move the business forward, which is actually pretty unique. It’s exactly what we need to get to the next rung and work out where we can grow and strengthen what we offer.”
Other companies highly commended were affordable hologram company Kino-mo and Zipcube, an ‘Airbnb for meeting rooms’.
Judge Mark Pearson, founder of myvouchercodes.co.uk, commented: “Every year it just gets more and more competitive, fast-paced and full of larger-than-life characters. We love to compare the candidates from the first time we came into contact with them to now, the Final, when they have learned so much and developed to transform ideas and rough plans into outstanding business prospects. This year, the talent has been so strong and the candidates are so full of enthusiasm and energy.”
