By Milan Perera  Tuesday Oct 31, 2023

The new head of Bristol Business School plans to develop a clear identity for the school in both regional and international communities.

UWE Bristol has appointed professor Andrew Simpson as the new dean and head for the school. He will begin his tenure on November 1.

Prior to this latest appointment, Simpson has spent the last ten years at Sheffield University Management School, where he was chair of management.

On his appointment, Simpson said: “UWE Bristol and Bristol Business School have strong foundations, both rooted in their community and with an international reputation and reach.

“I look forward to starting at UWE to build on these foundations and to develop a clear identity for the school in both regional and international communities.”

Simpson has previous experience in the business sector, where he worked in consultancy in the small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) prior to completing his PhD in statistics from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

He is also a reviewer for The International Journal of Production Economics and the European Journal of Operational Research.

On welcoming Simpson to Bristol Business School, professor Yvonne Beach, pro vice-chancellor and head of the College of Business and Law at UWE Bristol, said: “I am thrilled to welcome professor Andrew Simpson as dean of the Bristol Business School.  I am looking forward to working with him on building upon our successes and realising our future ambitions in outstanding practice-led learning and excellent research with real-world impact, and fostering an aspiring culture where we collaborate to solve future global challenges.”

Professor Simpson will join two other new senior members of staff that have been welcomed into UWE’s College of Business and Law this academic year. In September, Dr Kos Siliafis and professor Rachel Granger joined UWE as dean and head of Bristol Law School and dean of research and enterprise respectively.
