A new skills centre will help more people get into construction
A formal turf cutting ceremony was held on the February 14 to mark the start of construction of a new skills centre at the City of Bristol.
The centre will see a £9m investment into an Advanced Construction Skills Centre to offer greater education facilities in the construction sector and helping a greater number of people get trained in the skills needed to go into the sector.

Available courses for post-16 leavers will include more than 180 Level 3 apprenticeships as well as courses for trades in wood, brick and plaster when in opens in September 2021. The centre will also offer further qualifications for professionals already working in the sector.

“Construction is one of our region’s anchor sectors and we need to provide the new skills to help the industry grow in the future,” said the West of England mayor, Tim Bowles. “We also need to make sure that growth is inclusive and that everyone in our community can access those opportunities.”

The work will be undertaken by the Midas Construction Company who secured the project through the South West Construction Framework, a £5.2bn framework invested in expanding public sector projects over the next four years.
