Entries invited for Fairtrade Awards
Businesses are being invited to enter the South West Fairtrade Business Awards, which recognise companies that demonstrate a commitment to using and promoting Fairtrade. Now in its fourth year, the ceremony will be hosted at the At-Bristol Centre on Friday March 11 by Liz Earle MBE, famous for her natural skincare products and new line of Fairtrade jewellery.
The free-to-enter awards champion firms that place fair and ethical business practices at the heart of their ethos. In 2015, 76 regional businesses achieved bronze, silver and gold Awards, including shops, hotels, independent financial advisors and universities. Winners of each of the seven categories will receive a custom-made trophy from Bristol Blue Glass while all companies meeting the criteria will be entitled to use the Fairtrade e-logo. An overall winner is selected from the category winners, which has for the last two years been won by ethical clothing company, Koolskools.
Last year’s local winners included Café Create, law firm Lyons Davidson, The Better Food Company, University of Bristol, and Elaine Ashley, Bristol City Council.
Fairtrade guarantees a fair and living wage for small scale farmers in developing countries, as well as a social premium to benefit the wider community, to be spent on healthcare, education, clean water and more. Fairtrade standards also guarantee environmental protection of local ecosystems and rainforests, as well as strict controls on waste, carbon emissions and water use. It is an anti-poverty tool and supports sustainable farming methods across the globe.
Applications are open until January 30. Click to enter.
