Filwood Green wins national award
Bristol City Council’s eco-minded Filwood Green Business Park has scooped the Green Business of the Year award at the South West’s Business Leader Awards.
The award recognises the “outstanding contribution” of the business park to boosting employment in South Bristol, alongside its environmentally efficient building and policies, which include solar panels, low water-use appliances, green roofs, electric vehicle charging points and cycling facilities.
The park’s design won it a BREEAM ‘outstanding’ status earlier in the year.
Bristol mayor Marvin Rees said: “Business is booming in Bristol, but our challenge is that, while we have a great story to tell, the city’s success is shared by too few people.
“Projects such as Filwood Green Business Park are important not only because of what it delivers in sustainable terms, but also because it ensures Bristol’s success is felt beyond the city centre, in all parts of the city, including the most deprived areas.”
The business hub was born from a community consultation as part of the Knowle West Regeneration Framework and provides affordable, environmentally friendly office and workshop space for small businesses. 31 businesses currently operate from the site, ranging from security firms to design companies.
£5.5 million of the funding for the £11.6 million project came from the European Regional Development Fund, with the balance met by Bristol City Council.
