Uber-style roadside assistance debuts
A new service has launched in Bristol and the former Avon area offering motorists a pay-on-demand service for roadside assistance in a shift away from the traditional club membership model.
Resqyou is provided by Allianz Global Assistance UK and aims to meet the “ever-growing consumer appetite for digital on-demand services”.
The free app allows users to choose the service they need – from punctures to towing, flat batteries and misfuelling – and track their technician’s arrival in real-time. A ‘family view’ function lets users link accounts and monitor the status of an assistance call out.
“The traditional motoring club model alone simply does not offer the financial flexibility many consumers are demanding today,” says market management director for Allianz Global Assistance in the UK, Clare McKinnon. “What’s more, a wide and growing range of services are available at the tap of an app; in fact, that is how many people expect to make purchase decisions now. Resqyou responds to this shift, bringing tech savvy motorists the choice, control and convenience they expect in today’s market.”
Prices start at £79.99 and the company insists that this does not represent a premium for not having breakdown membership. “With many cars becoming more reliable, breakdowns are becoming less frequent,” says Clare. “This means many customers are paying for memberships each year but not actually needing the services they have bought. With Resqyou you only pay for what you need, when you need it. Over time you could be quids in.”
Following its Bristol launch, the company plans to roll the service out to major UK cities over the coming months.
