Tunisian collaborative painting in Bristol
Here’s another Bristol first: the UK launch of Tunisian Collaborative Painting (TCP) this Friday evening at Kings Weston House. Local artist Luke Palmer (aka Acerone) will curate the event with guidance from American artist and Broadway producer David Black and assistance from art broker Karen van Hoey Smith.
For a £5 donation via the Fundsurfer crowd funding platform, attendees will see an exhibition of paintings from a collection of Bristol’s finest artists including Inkie, FLX, Xenz, Andy Council, Cheba and Ian Thomson, as well as BP Portrait Prize finalists Richard Twose and Sam Fellows. Other artists on the night will include are DAN, Frances Mansfield, Gina Love, Graham ‘Paris’ Dews, HAKA, Jesse Winter-Tuck, Frankie Strand, Josh Ben-Tovim, Linda la Hive, Mat Eko, Rob Lawes and Silent Hobo.
There will also be an exhibition, workshop, presentation panel, Q&A sessions and a party featuring drop-in painting sessions, a collaborative DJ Jam with DJs Jabru, Fuseone and Bash Money, and a live set from Natalie James.
TCP originated in Tunisia as a secretive art form to avoid persecution from the country’s dictatorship. This silent art form then made its way secretly to the United States: it’s now making its UK debut.
“When I first discovered Tunisian Collaborative Painting, I immediately recognised its potential as a fully inclusive and accessible art project for students and young people that focussed on bringing people together to work on a creative project,” Luke explains.
“I fell in love with the idea of working collectively in silence and began facilitating TCP sessions with my students at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College the very next day.”
