Upfest 2016 registration now open

By Alison Maney  Tuesday Mar 1, 2016

Artists can now apply to participate in this summer’s Upfest. The event, which runs from July 23-25 on the streets of Bedminster and Southville, is Europe’s largest street art and graffiti festival.

More than 35,000 visitors are expected to attend this year’s Upfest, which will feature more than 30,000 square feet of artwork in dozens of venues.

Artists specialising in everything from graffiti to fine art are invited to apply for 250 spaces, with 75 reserved exclusively for Bristol artists.

Bristol-based contemporary artist Gemma Compton has created the Upfest 2016 logo and poster.

“My inspiration for this year’s artwork comes from the festival and my style,” says Gemma. “It’s not necessarily graffiti or street art but contemporary, which adds another level to the festival and a greater audience. I wanted it to look feminine – a lot of my work is – but also urban with the spray can.

“I try to work from a fine art basis, taking inspiration from nature, patterns, expressions and textures, which I think are reflected in the piece.”

Registration for Upfest 2016 will be open until March 27. Register at www.upfest.co.uk/page/upfest-2016-registration-is-now-open
