Preview: The Dutty Whine Up

By Meena Alexander  Tuesday Dec 1, 2015

Following the loss of a two-year legal battle with retail giant Massimo Dutti, Stokes Croft style institution Shop Dutty are being forced to give their well-known Bristol store a complete overhaul, with new branding and a new name.

To fund this change, as well as thousands of pounds of legal costs, owners Joh and Louisa are taking the brand back to its club night roots with a late night fashion showcase and music event, set to take place at a mystery location in the city centre on Saturday, December 5.

An entirely new brand name and collection will be revealed on the night, before the all-night party which will see DJ sets from some pretty big names. Acts confirmed so far include BBC Radio 1xtra’s Jamz Supernova and Bristolian/Trinidadian production duo Jus Now performing full band, as well as local sound system Feel the Real and Dutty Girl, the founder of the streetwear brand herself. Hype is also building around the secret headliners, with rumours circling that they could make this one of the biggest club nights of the year in Bristol.

Tickets to The Dutty Whine Up are available to buy as part of a crowdfunding campaign to get the store back on its feet, which currently stands at more than £6,300. Shop Dutty have set their target for the entire rebrand at £12,000, and are hoping for continued support as the business embarks on this new chapter.
