Brewery Theatre to close temporarily
The Brewery Theatre will be closing to the public from January because of insurance and licensing issues.
But it is hoped that productions will continue to be performed in the Tobacco Factory Theatres’ second theatre space once the issues are resolved and in the meantime the show will literally be taken on the road.
Mark’s Cafe now own the freehold to the former garage on North Street, and the consequent changes in insurance and licencing demands means that the cafe and theatre operations will no longer be able to share front of house facilities including toilets and bar.
is needed now More than ever
The Brewery will therefore have to close early next year, with plans already underway to refurbish and improve the popular space.
Tobacco Factory Theatres will be taking performances to Circomedia, the new Wardrobe Theatre in Old Market, the Greenbank pub in Easton, the Loco Klub underneath Bristol Temple Meads and Zion in Bedminster Down.
While this is happening, the Brewery studio will continue to be used for classes and rehearsals and the Brewery Theatre will remain useable as a rehearsal space.
Tobacco Factory Theatres director Ali Robertson said: “I am sorry to announce the temporary closure of the Brewery Theatre to audiences but I am excited by the emerging plans for the future of our second theatre space and look forward to sharing those once we have more to tell you and the support to make those plans a reality.
“In the meanwhile I am thrilled that we are producing and presenting such a wonderful season of dynamic and exciting work right across the city to complement the brilliant theatre, comedy and family work in our main building.”
