A taste of Food Connections Festival 2015

By Rachel Morris  Friday Mar 6, 2015

From celebrity chef cooking demos to early morning coffee raves, Food Connections Festival 2015 have released a taste of this year’s festival highlights.

From May 1 to 9, Bristol will turn into one huge celebration of good food, from a festival of spice in Easton to a fair trade gala dinner cooked by Michelin-starred chefs.

The BBC will also be back in town on the hunt for new culinary TV talent, as well as live recordings of some of their best known television and radio food programmes.

You can expect to rub shoulders with a whole host of celebrity chefs, with live cooking demos and talks from household names like Rick Stein, Sophie Grigson and Thomasina Miers.

Other highlights include an early morning coffee rave to fire up the brain cells, and an ‘Organoleptic Odyssey’ exploring the science of our senses.

Part of the programme will be geared towards growing and producing, with a careers fair hosted by Bell’s Diner Kate Hawkings and Financial Times food writer Tim Hayward exploring the pleasures and pitfalls of a life in food.

A Dragon’s Den style event will also see aspiring food producers from across the South West pitch their products to a panel of experts for a chance to win prizes from The Seed Fund and First Great Western.

There will be plenty on the programme for kids as well, with a Kids Cookery Pod at the festival and a city-wide campaign to find the Young Chef, Young Baker and Young Grower of the Year already underway.

And – in keeping with Bristol’s role as European Green Capital – festival organisers have said that many of the events will address serious social, environmental and economic issues.

“This is just a taste of things to come,” said Food Connections director Lorna Knapman. “Food Connections aims to connect people with all aspects of their food, from how and where it was grown, to the people who serve it to you, how it tastes, makes you feel and bring you together with neighbours, friends and family.

“With hundreds of events taking place all over the city, you’ll do more than just sit back and observe, Food Connections is all about rolling your sleeves up and getting hands on with the food we eat!”
