Michelin star Casamia to move to BS1
Michelin-starred restaurant Casamia is moving to a new home in central Bristol, after 15 years at its birthplace in Westbury-on-Trym.
The brothers behind the award-winning restaurant, Jonray and Peter Sanchez-Iglesias, took to Twitter to announce the move, revealing that they would start business at the restored General Hospital on Bathurst Basin on January 15 next year.
The recently restored General Hospital will be Casamia’s new home
“We are proud Bristol boys, so we obviously saw no need to look any further than the BS postcode,” the pair announced in an open letter. “It is so important to us to keep that homely feeling we have here in our Westbury restaurant, but at the same time we are obsessed with improving our guests’ experience with us, so we are refining all elements.”
The relocation reflects the growing success and acclaim that Casamia has garnered since its opening as a small trattoria by the brothers’ parents Paco and Susan in 1999.
The pair admitted that they had been searching for the perfect location for a few years before they set on the new site.
Every table in the main restaurant will have a view of the open kitchen, influenced by the original Casamia. There will also be a new private dinning room with an adjoining test kitchen for behind the scenes menu development.
“We’ve been discussing Casamia’s future for a long time,” Jonray and Peter wrote in their letter. “We wanted to find a place where the physical restaurant reflects the creativity and refinement we work so hard to achieve with our food.”
